It's really neat and so completely opposite of what I was taught in school. LOL

It is, really, if you think about it.

I recall being told there were nine plants and nine planets only and space debris like dust and gas was out there with not much else. Personally, I never bought into that. I learned the material I was told to learn and I kept my mouth shut about pondering such heresy as there being other things out there. So you can see how coming across something like this made me a happy little camper. =)

And to me, Pluto will always be a planet, regardless of what the so-called experts want to claim. =D

It's amazing how much science has changed over the years. I'm back in school now and in an astronomy class where I'm being taught lots that directly contradicts what I was taught in high school only ten years ago o_o. I love Hubble Space Telescope pictures. Check out their website sunny : http://hubblesite.org/gallery/

It really is amazing. I can't help but think that some people will never accept anything shown by the Hubble because they can't think that far out of the box enough to wrap their brains around it. I feel kind of bad for them because they have no idea about the neat things they are missing out on.

I have the APOD feed thingy and love the pictures I get from it. Many times those are my wallpapers. =)

Thanks for the link. *wanders off to peruse pictures*

Wistful is a good word for it. Homesick might be another way to put it. That sort of hits me upon seeing pictures of Ireland and Scotland and another place or two.

I've seen stills but not the video. There is a lot of beauty out there. I don't yearn for the stars as that is not and never was my home. For me the yearning is not so much for a place as for a pair of eyes, soft lips and strong arms... oh and those soft feathers close to the skin that I used to rest my head on.

The places that I yearn for are those we visited together, those that remind me of him. He is the whole of me.

I believe you'll have that again.

The Universe is so incredibly beautiful. I did know about the deep field pictures. But each time I see pictures of space I get a deep sense of longing. Like wanting to go Home.. but sometimes more than that.. Like I am part of the Universe and it is part of me, if that makes sense.

It makes sense.

Those pictures are so awesome. Sometimes I put it in my browser and just look at it because it's so neat.

That photograph made a monumental impact on me the first time I saw it, but I never knew the context in which it was taken, until now.

I looked at all those galaxies, and began to wonder, in a child-like way, what "held them all up." What put this there, instead of another spot? Why was that one slanted diagonally, while another faced its edge to us, and this other showed its top (or bottom)? My mind spiraled off into contemplations of anti-matter, and spectrums we cannot see or measure, and it hit me: there is no such thing as "empty space." Everything is filled with something, even if we can't perceive it.

All at once, I was less than an atom upon an atom on an atom, unperceived in this unfathomable pile. I was completely insignificant. Nothing I did mattered any more than any of the other atoms' actions, which also meant that every piece is equal, and valid, and important, because each is unique within that infinity. I am here, instead of there, and that impacts the whole, even as individual pieces are less than a grain of sand when counted. It was the most blessedly liberating revelation I've ever had.

Funny enough, it did the same all over again, learning that was supposed to be a snapshot of "empty space." I needed that reminder again. Thanks for sharing.

Glad to share it and even more glad you enjoyed watching it.

I know whenever I watch it, I feel even happier than before, maybe because it's proof that much of what I was told to believe the first twenty years of my life was wrong and that much of what I'm experiencing is possible because it's not all empty out there, if that makes sense. =)
