PostSubject: How to create a system while still being true to one’s self?   Tue Oct 25, 2011 7:48 pm

Hey all!
Let me start by saying I am sorry for not being around for awhile, but my job and school have kept me busy. To add to this I recently started a group on one of the sites that is meant to develop ones spiritual, mental and physical proves while being a wolf/therian/shifter/werewolf. The problem I am facing is not really a shortage of members or experience (I still of course work on expanding my own knowledge) but rather how to combine members of various backgrounds into a good group that will function even in the event of my absence. I am not asking for advice on some organization but rather how you would develop your teaching program while having others in mind?
Currently we work on a very simple program, where I give them weekly tasks they must complete which are divided into the spiritual, mental and physical section of ones being. For the spiritual part I give them different meditation exercises, for the physical I give them some running or pushups and for the mental I give them lore to read online.
While doing this I also put myself through exactly the same regime so that I am not considered slacking. At the end of every week we get together online and talk how it went and what improvements could be made and so on.
Yet I am concerned about strangling their own creative nature in a sense and making them dependant on me. So how would any of you go by fixing such a problem if it confronted you?

You could ask the members what they want to do. Or you could rotate through the members so each week a different member will help you decide the activities or come up with them on their own.

It depends what you want from the group. if you want it to be an organic entity, feeding itself with everyone involved growing and evolving by the interaction of each member then you have to involve the members in the planning and growing. Perhaps make the lessons more like workshops where everyone inputs their own creativity to create a growing body of knowledge and experience. let's face it the best way to learn is to do.

If you want it to be a more structured group then maybe you can create a 'timetable' set out a schedule of lesson plans and open it to the members to bring their own experiences to the table but just as a response to the teaching rather than helping to create the lesson.

Really it's the method of teaching... the schoolteacher or the sage.

Good luck
