I've been wondering ever since I remembered my death, "Well, what happened to the surviving Necrolim?"
I decided, after reading one of Ash's posts about music videos, to watch some music videos, out of curiosity. I watched the one for "In the End" by Black Veil Brides and the resemblence to some of the events directly during and following my death were shocking, to say the least. Even some of the lyrics remind me of, well, ME! O_o
What surprised me most though was the resurgance of the memory telling of what exactly happened to the Necrolim after my death. Even now, as I type this, I'm remembering some final details.
After my death and the following funeral ceremony, Shuzari's final act—and perhaps even duty—before totally and completely lapsing into the state of apathy and instability that he did for so long was to inform the Necrolim of my untimely demise and of my murderer.
Needless to say, he was initially met with shock, and even skepticism.
Then he left them, telling them to do what they wished with the knowledge.
Days passed. The Necrolim, both Reapers and Absolute, kept on their uniforms in my memory. Some of them had work to do in or near the human villages near Eden. They overheard some humans, particularly the younger ones, saying that Death was gone (word got around the grapevine quite quickly) and they no longer had to fear dying (though the older humans knew better than to think such foolish things). The Necrolim who heard the words, over and over again, were greatly infuriated by this. They spread word to the rest.
And... One day, they had had enough. They decided they would teach the humans a lesson, for through their careless and carefree words, the Necrolim felt that the humans were making a GREAT mockery of me, someone who—when I had been alive—they feared greatly (though there wasn't much reason to) but was actually, who the Necrolim considered to be a great heroine. "How DARE they mock our leader, our hero, the one who led us to many a victory?! How DARE they mock the memory of someone they should have the UTMOST RESPECT for?! How DARE they mock DEATH?!" ... This was their mindset and they wanted to get that through to the humans.
But... At the same time, there was also this mindset that there was nothing left for them. They knew nothing else, in a sense. They no longer had a leader and nobody who was willing to or even COULD take the spot.
So one night, most, if not all, of the Necrolim took up arms, and they went on a great massacre, splitting into several groups as to get several villages. Each group killed multiple humans in each village, men AND women (but as per my code of honor, avoided the children) and did this in full sight of other villagers... Then, several of the more dedicated—I suppose you could say—of the Necrolim (most of them were Absolute), each in different groups, walked into plain sight of the humans, shouted the words, "In the name of the Lady of the Lilies, I steep myself in blood!!!" then commited suicide with no hesitation in front of the surviving villagers.
The rest of them remained in the villages until morning when they were found, caught, and arrested. They were all then sentenced to death for their actions. When given the opportunity for last words, all of them said—each with variations and some with some additional or excluded words, "Many a time, I have both seen Death dance and danced as Death. And as a result, I can say this: the Dance never ends. Kill all of us; go on. We have nothing more to live for anyway and nowhere to go, monsters like us. 'Death will continue to dance for Eternity': we wanted to make sure the humans knew that. But it's alright; I have no regrets... because in the end, we did what we sought out to do: we immortalized Her memory, at least in their eyes. It doesn't matter if that immortality comes from fear or from respect because when their time comes... they'll see that they never had anything to fear in the first place."
The event of the massacre became known as the Night of Lilies and Cold Blood.
