By Fate Apr 15 2009 - Just posting an intro here to say hello to all, and give you some sense of why I'm here. The concept of being different, as with most of you I can see, is one I've been dealing with since childhood. It just took me a couple of decades beyond that to figure out why.
I suppose you can say the 'awakening' began in 2003, though certain things had been leading up to it. It was a tough time on an emotional scale, and since I tend to be a very detached person most of the time, it made it worse. Enter a group of dark, mainly winged members of a family that used the names of several Greek deities (or more precisely human emotion embodiments). The name Fate is one I've been using since 1999, and while I knew the Fates themselves were Greek, it turned out that they were part of that same family group in the Hellenic pantheon (children of Nyx).
I'm a weird pagan amalgamation. I've honored Mary as the Goddess since childhood, but was not raised in a religious household until I was almost 13, and then Jesus was the "important" one according to my family members (long story). In fourth grade I met Athena, and we've been together ever since, but the other family didn't come along until the aforementioned 2003.
So, here I am. Aware finally that there should be wings back there, something that has been slowly unfolding (please excuse the pun), to my awareness since then. There is more to this, but I suppose it leads me to think that I qualify in the Shadow category, not the Fallen. I do have memories of two previous past lives, however, one not human and one as a human male. I think the human male was supposed to fix whatever I did 'wrong' before, but he didn't so great a job, so here I am again.
Anyway, glad to be here, and looking forward to reading more from everyone.
Best,
Fate

Thanks for letting us know a bit about you. =) I hope you'll find yourself comfortable enough to share more, if not in the public parts of the forum then in the Members section, which offers a little more privacy.
This place is the safest I've found; I hope it will help you find whatever you need.
Peace. smile.gif
By Seraphyna Apr 15 2009 -Welcome smile.gif I'd be curious to hear why you identify more as shadow than something along the lines of angel if you're willing.
By Riley Apr 15 2009 -Yarrrr, Ye' Welcome aboard! Glad to have more on here for more interesting conversations. I like you already, your energy certainly feels good to me O:<
By Ishtahar Apr 15 2009 -Welcome Fate. It is always good to welcome a new member. Making new friends is just as much fun as chilling with old ones.... and some of us are older than others wink.gif

"Welcome smile.gif I'd be curious to hear why you identify more as shadow than something along the lines of angel if you're willing."
Sure, no problem. The concept of Shadow here is somewhat different than the way I am used to thinking of it, and though I am familiar with some of the features mentioned elsewhere on the forum (the sandstone/white buildings, the human interactions, etc), they don't resonate as something with which I was directly involved as a humanoid. As energy occasionally, but definitely never in a human form. I remember being a guard, and something of an associate, but in a form that was what I would describe as feline. We don't have big cats today that I can make a reasonable comparison with I'm afraid, but I will pick my brain further.
By Azaz'el Apr 15 2009 -Greetings Fate and welcome to the forum. I hope you have a fantastic time here, with some laughs, some tears, some moments of thought and some of absolute certainty. Ish and I created this forum as a safe place for all Kin linked to the Shadow to come together as friends, to heal, to remember and to share.
We're all mixed, we all have different memories, we all have a common background. So feel free to jump in, to post, to laugh and share. If you have any problems then just shout out to a Mod or us Admin and we'll do all we can to help.
Welcome!

By Ouza Apr 17 2009 -Dearest Fate,
Welcome home !!!
Love always,

By Scratch Apr 22 2009 -Right on! Ever run into Icarus? I like the way you summed that up.
Things just keep getting more and more interesting. Glad that you joined in here.
By Fate Apr 22 2009 -No, at least not as far as I know. It's usually just the aforementioned family, Athena, and occasionally Aphrodite when she's in a "mood". She thinks I'm a little dull, and tries to get me to spice things up.
By Scratch Apr 23 2009 -::chuckles:: Cayenne might be effective.
But I was being somewhat serious, although you wouldn't have. I've met people who were, in one way or another, identified as shades of all sorts of pantheons. The really interesting thing is I've never met the same name twice.
By Fate Apr 23 2009 -Ah yes, ok. I do see myself as a Shade or Shadow from a non-Christian pantheon rather than the one I think others here seem to understand as their group. I think that is probably why there is the feline issue.
When I first arrived here I read a post you made, and I wish I could recall right now what it was on, because I wanted to ask you more about it. Will look it up...
Edit: I remembered. It was about the woman with the black hair. Someone else mentioned such a figure just the other day, and I've been associating with one since childhood.
By Fate May 11 2009 -I think I have part of my background figured out. The memories I have shared here of the wings, and yet being a feline-like entity, are consistent with pre-Islamic jinn. There are also many other factors that lend themselves to my seeing this as my 'kin type.
Though most sources credit jinn as having been created by God (Allah), one has to remember that the victors write the histories, and Arabia is not the place it once was. Djinn are shifters, and typically prefer to become large cats (often black), snakes or dogs (although they can take whatever form they choose). "Beth Fasi'el near Palmyra pays tribute to the "Ginnaye", the "good and rewarding gods"[6] providing a sharp resemblance to the Latin Genius and Juno: The Guardian Spirits. The social organization of the jinn community resembles that of humans - such as they have kings, courts of law, weddings, and mourning rituals.[17]" (Wiki)
Jinn are known to whisper a great deal, possess black wings in their form most often seen by humans, and were originally formed of fire or smoke. By the time of Islam, they were viewed as primarily malicious, although modern sources concede that they may be either "good" or "bad" because of the free will component, and they follow human pantheons that interest them (i.e. not always God). They are connected to the concept of fate, and Iblis, the being that refused to submit to Adam. Sound familiar? Yes, Shatain, i.e. Satan. Which means there is a connection to Azazel as well, although it's debatable if it's the same Azazel we know here.
On a more personal level, jinn's likes and dislikes:
Likes
warm climates (yes)
dark locations (yes)
scents: patchouli and dark cherry (yes-when Nyx first made contact, she asked for black cherry incense, which I'd never heard of, so I went out and bought a few sticks)
colors: black, gray, purple
plants: honeysuckle, lavender, plumeria, sage
Dislikes
salt (yes)
iron and steel (Yes, because iron stinks and I'm allergic to steel) (Then again, I am allergic to all metal except for iron and silver.)
Interestingly, they are said to like lavender and sage. I will admit those are the only two plants to which I am allergic. I'm wondering if this might have been a way to keep me distanced from the group.

Ever been drawn to Odin in anyway shape or form (not so human)! You said you weren't certain as to if you ever succeeded in your task and find yourself here again to fix it or make it straight!
Forgive my forwardness... but I've been waiting for you a long long time! Whether or not you know it or not, you owe me a favor! But that is a different story and time has past many many moons now but of course you have come to the right place!
Again, welcome home!

p.s. your association with Mary is not coincidental but quite historically true if you are willing to look at it in that respect!

No, I've never been drawn to any of the Norse pantheon (except for perhaps Hel), and I am not too keen on the Celtic either. I will admit, however, that part of my Celtic issue has to do with the first coven to which I was exposed, about 60 or so people in size, and primarily people only interested in drinking and trading "love" partners. I do think some of it might have to do with wars though as well, not just the coven complaint, because something about the Celtic deities has a tendency to make my teeth grind. For no reason I can give I tend to think of them as usurpers. Then again, and harkening back to the iron issue, the Celts were able to spread during the Iron Age.
You've been waiting for me, and I owe you a favor? Do explain...

As for what you did, I'm drawing a blank here. The whole being nebulous thing, not working out for you. Directness tends to work a lot better with me.

Thank you Az. I have no idea what he's talking about, since I have no previous memories of anyone here, and I am tired of trying to decipher the riddle. It's been that kind of day. dry.gif
By Ouza May 16 2009 - It's all about Fate, Choice and with a dash of ultimate Change as to the final result of our own Free Will's together on this beautiful planet of ours called Earth ...
It's not who we are that makes us ... it is what we are together and represent as the whole which is the so called scheme of things! We never can and never will sell any of ourselves short here!
The Muse Fate will have a major role in our ultimate and final goal as team mates both here, elsewhere and abroad! A lot of us seem more comfortable on good old Terra Firma (Gaea) while others as Az so aptly puts, it are Starseed, Kin, Elf, Elemental, Angel or otherwise, etc.!
And we should agree that we do ... need to broaden our horizon to include everyone who are not just those that fall into the comfortable with zone or to even refuse those who that are unfamiliar just because of not feeling comfortable around them or not being able to understand their motives which may or may not be based on our own experience's (both good or bad) from the past!
Just because we don't see that there is an ultimate part of the plan of things to come doesn't mean that these souls should not exist and have any right not to be here!
We work together as a team with an ultimate goal ... to take that accumulated knowledge together to the next step or level! Whatever that is, Wherever it is, and However it is, was and will be!

Most welcome. biggrin.gif
I should point out here I think, that I don't consider myself a muse or that the Fates were muses either. Like the rest of their family, I feel they were embodiments of human emotion and the environment. I also don't believe they had anything to do with Chance or Change-that's what Tyche Fortuna was all about. The Fates were considered impossible to deter from their course of action in determining the lives of men, so Tyche was the one you looked to for luck and hope in changing factors whether it be for the individual or an entire city.
By Ishtahar May 19 2009 -I have had dealings with the Fates. We all have, whether we know it or not. Personally I have never feared them but they are fearful nevertheless. Even though they are immensely interseting.
